WHAT ARE THE QUANTUM TECHNOLOGY BENEFITS TO US AND WHAT ARE THE USAGE AREAS?

Quantum technology emerged in the field where engineering and physics majors merged. In the words of Paul Martin, “Quantum technology is a system that works using the principles of quantum mechanics (the physics of subatomic particles), including quantum entanglement and quantum superposition.

Quantum Superposition:

Its main purpose is to calculate how certain waves will propagate and behave. We can explain the behavior of these waves with Schrödinger’s Wave Equation.

Quantum Entanglement: Two similar parts have synchronicity with each other. Whatever state these parts are in, they affect each other.

We can examine quantum technology under 4 main headings:

• Quantum computing: It is used to solve the problem by generating new solutions faster than basic computers.

• Quantum communication: Basically, the most secure way of communication is sought by using qubits.

• Quantum sensing: It is aimed to maximize the sensitivity of the sensors.

• Quantum simulation: Since it reaches the best solution in the shortest time and in the fastest time, the resource lost through trial and error reduces time.

To better understand the definition of quantum computers, let’s recall the computer features we use.

Basic computers are made up of 0s and 1s. With the combination of these two numbers, all the data we see and read on the computer screen is formed. Cells holding 0s and 1s are called ‘bits’.

In quantum computers, on the other hand, bits are not found, information is stored in qubits.

If we look at the difference between bits and qubits, we can express it as “and”,”or”. If we accept 1s as YES and 0s as NO, bits store information with YES or NO, qubits can additionally store as YES and NO.

We can explain that the purpose of quantum computers is to shorten the solution of problems because they can calculate simultaneously for all possible solutions. These solutions may not always give one best result, and more than one best result may occur. While the number of operations we can do alone is limited, we present these results to ourselves thanks to the quantum technology we have developed.

Quantum computers are still devices in development. It will take a while for it to be commercially available, but we can say that with the introduction of this technology into our lives, we will begin to make our lives easier and be used widely in many areas. For example:

• It will be used in various services such as video calling, sending text messages, sending documents.

• It will play an important role in making the communication more secure with the data encryption method developed thanks to qubits, in the existing order of cyber security vulnerabilities.

• It provides clearer and faster results in calculations to be made in banks and financial institutions.

DEVELOPMENTS IN THE QUANTUM FIELD:

We can see the use of quantum technologies in smartphones that we use most widely. Such a pervasive technology signals us that a new revolution will begin: the Quantum Revolution. The leader of this technology, which has widespread use among countries, is China. China has made its mark on many innovations in this field. In 2016, they launched the first quantum communication satellite, QUESS, and then they started working on the quantum internet. In 2021, they broke new ground in the world and developed the quantum satellite station.

In addition, some developments in the world are:

• UKNQT (£270 M — 2013)

• QUTech Delft (145 M€ — 2014)

• Austrian Quantum Technology (QT) Initiative (35–40 M€ — 2016)

• ATOS Quantum established (€13.5 —2016) and quantum simulator launched.

• SK Telekom invested in the development of quantum secure cryptography for use in 5G and IoT. (34 B$)

• “Quantum Experiments Using Satellite Technology (QUEST)” initiative was launched in India.

WHAT IS QUANTUM DOT DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY? Quantum Dots are called semiconductors and nano-sized crystals.

Quantum atoms can be defined as large giant atoms containing more than one atom. The smallest dots radiate blue, the larger ones radiate red, that is, these dots can radiate at any frequency that can be seen. Therefore, quantum dots are of great importance in the development of medical imaging processes, solar panels, LEDs, computer applications.
